Who has the monopoly?
Selected for 2014 First Impressions View gallery exhibition.
The idea behind this piece was to confront the issue that there are fewer wealthy people and large amounts of poorer people. It considers the symbiotic relationship between rich and poor and the feeling that some times one could not exist without the other.
I wanted to create this piece from recycled rubbish I had found. I started with the theme of you are what you eat and that made me think that we are living in a consumer society where consumerism does sometimes define people and we are eating unnatural processed things that are not that great for you. I was also interested by the colour psychology of the products and segregated the colours to emphasise the colourful appealing nature of advertising.
