I have just completed my second year studying architecture and through my studies I have looked at architectural history, architectural design, contemporary art and technology and the environment. All of theses aspects have made considering space, form, organisation, proportion and scale an everyday part of my design thinking.
Below are some images, reflective documents and presentations sheets that have come from my architectural projects.
Looking at bubble formation to inform my design decision in terms of organisation and scale.
I used glass to create a maquet to explore circular spaces but also the intercation of glass with light. I was inspired to start using glass when looking at the irredesent bubble on the surface of my washing up bowl.
I played around with the glass as different scales. Either as rooms…
… or as facades.
Plaster and wood model
1:500 scale model of SANAA’s 21st Century Museum of Modern Art
The interior view shows how the adjecent volumes create areas of compression and release within the building envelope.
I used wood in this case to quickly mass out blocks of buildings. I was looking at SANAA’s 21st Century Museum of Modern art as a precedent for creating buildings made up of multiple volumes.
It then became easier to allocate spaces to functions
The site for our brief was located in the center of the map. I looked at current routes to and from the site and the potential to continue these routes.
I blocked out the green spaces surrounding the site and thought it was appropriate to propose an abundance of greenery on our site to create a green belt spreading from one side of the site to the other.
I also looked at the surrounding buildings to the site and considered if we could propose anything within our design to give back to the local community.
